Join Stephen McCarthy in a talk about the English sculptor Gilbert Bayes (1872-1953). Bayes had a long, prolific career, and was responsible for more public sculpture than any other artist working in Britain between the two world wars, with a significant amount of it in London. He created some of his best work for a social housing scheme in Somers Town. In the forward-thinking initiative for its time, Bayes brought colour, whimsy and fantasy to the 1930s blocks and courtyards there, ensuring ‘art was for the people’.

Stephen McCarthy set up Hidden London Walks in 2016 and is a regular of the Somers Town History Group.

This talk will be via Zoom (link to be advised).
